Although urine tests are the most common drug tests being used for employees, the problem with it is that employees have found ways to cheat their urine test. While this test is cheap, fast, and effective, employees only drink large amounts of water before taking the test so that drug residues are flushed out from their system. This can make the urine drug test a negative dilute test. When urine is diluted will not give an accurate result. There are employers who simply let this go but there are also those who will insist on a restest.
Employees who took drugs within a week before the urine drug test will be found positive of drug traces. There should be an immediate urine drug testing if an employer suspects drug use in the workplace.
Urine drug tests can come in different forms. The difference is in the number of panels that they use. The number of panels used in the drug test shows us how many types of drugs are being tested in it. 6-panel and 10-panel drug tests are the popular ones. The 16-panel drug tests can determine 16 kinds of drug traces in the urine.
Hair follicle tests are now getting popular among employers. It gives more accurate results than urine tests. Even if a drug user has last taken drugs 90 to 120 days prior to the drug test, the drug traces can still be found in the hair follicle. As long as 60 to 120 days prior to drug testing, employees who have used drugs within this time period will be tested positive of drug use. The history of drug taking of a person can also be revealed in a hair follicle test. Employees have not yet found a perfect way of cheating hair follicle drug testing. Those taking the hair follicle test are not allowed to bring a loose sample of hair which could be switched. A sample of hair from the back of the head will be taken by the examiner and then sent for analysis. Employees who have taken drugs the past 3 to 4 months and will take a hair follicle test can be tested positive for drug use and may be in trouble with their employment. Hair follicle drug testing is more expensive than urine drug testing.
